Zero Degree Realm Impression (Part 3)

We are now in the third episode of this listening series. Everything discussed in parts 1 and 2 remains relevant. I have a high-end source and an excellent IEM, but I am concerned about whether the Realm can cross the final threshold into perfection.

I am using the DX320 with a silver coaxial cable connected to the modified D16, which has been upgraded with Blackgate capacitors. The dynamics and extensions exceed those of the DX320 MAX, and these enhancements do not compromise the naturalness of the 1-bit DAC. In other words, this is as good as I can make my music sound.

The soundstage of the Aehta is not particularly wide but is reproduced faithfully. If the IEM is tuned to provide a large soundstage with airiness, that will be rendered accurately. Otherwise, it stays true to its tuning.

The Aehta has a mild W tuning, delivering sound that is forward, rich, and solid. This results in a hypnotically rich portrayal of vocals and bass lines, with the treble acting as a supporting element.

I am pleased to report that this setup has met my expectations. This is as good as it gets. The electronic bass lines are mind-blowing, and acoustic guitars sound incredibly natural. Both male and female vocals are infused with emotion.

There is just one thing left to try: the PB-5 tubes.

Now, the soundstage has expanded significantly! The PB-5 tubes provide a very clean sound. Most of the time, I can't tell that I'm listening to tubes; it only changes the stage size and adds warmth. However, with the Realm, I can definitely discern the tubes. The notes have a diffusion, almost like a halo surrounding them. Treble is mellowed, allowing me to hear details like a finger gliding along a guitar from a distance and the subtle sigh of a vocalist as she exhales before taking her next breath. The bass notes vary because the musician adjusts finger pressure and strumming just slightly between notes.

This concludes my impressions of the Zero Degree Realm cable. It is a very expensive cable, and the question isn't whether it sounds good, but whether it performs up to its asking price. I cannot answer that directly, as everyone values money differently. Does your equipment possess the finesse to benefit from such a cable? What I can confidently say is that this cable renders sound without exaggeration; everything you expect to hear is present. It will surprise you with nuances you didn't know existed.

The downside of such a transparent cable is that it is not suitable for poorly mastered music and is a waste on entry-level gear. However, when used appropriately, it will evoke the emotions, heartache, joy, and longing found in your music. This is the highest order of music appreciation, isn't it?
